THE BARTENDER

Filed under: Blog — admin @ 1:15 pm

I don’t know about many things in this life.  Black holes, civil engineering, African America hair loss, long division are just a few of these things.  But the one subject that I know the least about, that I can in fact actually claim to know almost nothing about at all, is that of women.  I know more about African America hair loss than women.  I do not get them at all.  They confuse me in more ways than I can count.  I just try to be myself, try to be honest, and take things as they come, but that never works.  There was this one girl I saw every few days.  All right, I saw her every few days because she was my bartender.  But we were friends and we talked a lot and it was obvious I wanted to build toward something, but she apparently never picked up on that.  She never realized I liked her a lot despite the fact that I’m constantly sitting at her bar, wasting away all my money on her, tipping her twice as much as I’d tip anyone else.  I am taking things slowly since her last boyfriend cheated on her, but then one week she tells she has a new boyfriend from England, a short, pudgy guy from England in a heavy metal band, no less. And then he gave her mono.  Yeah, how do I compete with that?

KEY WEST

Filed under: Blog — admin @ 10:35 am

By the time we reached Key West we had pretty much decided on which doctor we were going to use.  Lasik in Florida is a big business, so we had plenty of choices of doctors and clinics.  I was actually exhausted from visiting so many doctors that I was actually looking forward to visiting with Carol and her new husband, Sam.  We arrived in Key West and had our pictures taken a the marker for the Southern Most Point in the United States.  Then we had lunch with Carol.  Finally, Tara asked where Sam was.  Carol frowned.  Apparently they were not getting along.  I was thinking when she was talking that this is not good.  This was their honeymoon after all.  Carol was complaining that Sam just didn't want to do anything but stay in the hotel room and watch HBO.  He did seem pretty quiet.  I asked how long she had known Sam.  Carol said that they had met online about 3 months ago.  They were really attracted to each other, and then just decided that they no longer needed to look.  This was Carol's fourth marriage and it was Sam's second.   Tara later said that she wasn't surprised.  Carol, she said was a pretty impulsive person.  We flew home with a doctor in mind for the treatment.

FINGERS DO THE WALKING

Filed under: Blog — admin @ 4:30 pm

Sue asked me about the cost of lasik. I had no idea. None. I told her to just go online and see if she could find out. Or she could just use the old fashioned phone book and let her fingers do the walking. She decided to ask Mora, who had had some treatments done late last year. She was surprised about the cost, but decided to have a treatment. She went to a local place, downtown. It didn't take as long as she thought, and in no time she was back. How did you think it went, I asked. She thought well. She was soon referring the treatment place to all her friends, and I know that a few of them took her up on it For some of them cost is no problem, but for others I know that they might not have the money up front, but I'm sure they can use their credit cards or the place has some kind of financing available. All I know is that Sue was happy with the treatment. So that meant that she would tell as many people as possible. That's the way it is with Sue. I am too, to a certain extent, but I don't have the network of friends that Sue has. She even has a MySpace page.

A FRIGHTENING DIAGNOSIS

Filed under: Blog — admin @ 12:59 pm

Diabetes can be a frightening diagnosis when you hear the word from your doctor. It can be difficult to change your lifestyle and knowing that this change will make such an important impact on your health. You may be experiencing some anxiety, or other uncomfortable feelings. They stem from the unknown future. This is where knowledge becomes most beneficial. It is time to take control of your new health issue. Talk to your physician, talk to your friends, make sure that you have the right medical supplies, and above all make sure that you know what to expect. This will help to ease some of your fears. Do you know what kind of supplies that are needed?   Does your insurance cover these items? The key to diabetes control is glucose testing, monitoring, and doing discussing these results with your physician. This means you must understand what the readings on your monitor stand for and how they will have an effect on your life. You will now be needing some special equipment, and you will be using it on a daily  basis. The most important item is the actual monitor used to measure the amount of glucose you have in your blood. This is the amount that has not been drawn into the cells to be used. It is measured with a blood glucose monitor.

STUBBORN MAN

Filed under: Blog — admin @ 4:17 pm

Despite what the company from whom I bought the whole system said, I had no problem installing home security by myself in my very own home.  My wife kept shaking her head at me, pleading that we should just call in a service man and give him the job of installing home security for our place, but why should I have to pay and tip this guy when I can do the whole job by myself?  I know my way around a workbench and how to use tools and I taught myself how to use a computer.  And my wife knows all that.  She has nothing to worry about.  She married me.  She knows how stubborn I can be, but it’s worth it because I showed her I could do that.  At the end of the day, we tried out the system and she admitted she was wrong and that she would feel much safer at home now.  And it was all because of me her beloved, darling husband who just happens to be the greatest husband in the world and ever in history.  Now I want to see her hook up the new cable box we just got and that new microwave oven.  Hey, she has to earn her keep.

CIVILIZATION IN AMERICA

Filed under: Blog — admin @ 5:08 pm

I am often under the impression that most of everyone I encounter believes that American society is the epitome of civilization.  Even people I meet from other countries share this same outlook.  I can’t complain about the liberties I do have as well as the many modern conveniences at my disposal and while my international travels have been limited, I still have a difficult time believing that our society is any freer than the inhabitants of other countries, particularly those of other civilized nations.

In America, it is somewhat obvious to me that government, big business and the media are all scratching each other’s backs.  Big business manufactures parts for bombs for the government and in turn gets breaks on its environmental policies, among other things.  I’m oversimplifying, yes, but General Electric does happen to manufacture neutron generators for nuclear bombs.  And they also happen to own NBC.

The government’s hand in the media’s influence is often quite evident, especially with presidential elections just around the corner.  While there are several political parties to affiliate yourself with in America, the Democrats and Republicans remain the two parties in the stronghold.  And when people are indecisive about who to vote for, they frequently turn to the media to shed some light on the contenders.  But the media seems to play off the stupidity of the general populace and helps keep this country grounded in its two-party system by giving the candidates most likely to win the most coverage.  Is it any wonder that Hilary Clinton and Barack Obama are in the lead for the Democratic party nomination, when we’ve heard more about their campaigns than others seeking nomination within the same party?  Covering the front runners may seem like an obvious thing to do but voters can only truly make an informed decision when they have all the facts.  And it is difficult to ascertain all the facts when no one wants to release that information to the public.  Basically, we are given the choice to vote for either Candidate A or Candidate B.  If you vote for either candidates C or D, they really don’t have a chance in hell to win the election and you may even get chastised by your peers for “wasting” your vote.

While other countries certainly have their own issues and corruptions, the United States presidential elections are just one example why we are not the free nation that we proclaim to be.  While we do have the right to a free press, those who really have something to say are outnumbered and outperformed by a studio like NBC, who has the capability, control and manpower it needs to spread whatever message that it sees fit…as well as a television station where you can tune in for all your primetime, daytime, and late night television show needs.  America states it is proud to be a democracy but when we will truly be a government and society run by its people instead of the media, is another matter.
